Newtown, CT permits accessory apartments under Sections 3.01.500 through 3.01.506 of the Town Zoning Regulations (February 2024 reprint). Both attached and detached configurations are explicitly allowed: one accessory apartment located in a separate building or attached to the existing dwelling, with a cap of 1,000 square feet or 40 percent of the main dwelling, whichever is less.
